It really is! The last movie I saw with an all asian cast (in the theater) was the Joy Luck Club.


Why does everyone forget about Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)? It was a FANTASTIC movie, won a Golden Globe, won three Oscars and was nominated for a further three. It also outperformed the Joy Luck Club by a factor of 3.

Michelle Yeoh was in it too!

Asian American male here:

I just read a bunch of reviews about how it "reinforces stereotypes" and a bunch of "cultural appropriation" comments. The reviews were all from white males.

So it's hard to get over that it's 2018 and people feel that way. But still not keeping me from seeing it.


How the F is it cultural appropriation?

I saw CRA tonight and it was such fabulous fun. Michelle Yeoh and Awkwafina were my favorites.

That is probably true for every movie. But Get Out is a very different movie - unless you just mean that both have largely non-white casts?
