I have a younger sister by three years and we love and support each other but don't have an easy closeness. I see some sisters who just have a comfortable, easy rapport and talk for hours when they're reunited. My sister and I never had that but we both rush to help each other out when it counts. I know enough people who don't have even that to be grateful.

In a sad way, this thread makes me feel better about my own situation in that I can see I’m not alone.

My sister is 3 years older and resents the fact that I’m alive. We don’t talk, she has zero interest in my children, and is prickly to me and my family.

We live in the same town, so the whole thing is awkward. But she is a miserable, unkind person who doesn’t seem to know how to treat family.

4 sisters ranging between 10 - 20 years younger than me. I don't feel particularly close with any of them like I do with my best friend (we've been friends since we were 14).

It wasn't always like that, but I think it currently has a lot to do with age difference now. I have elementary school kids -- one sister has a toddler, the other recently had her first, one sister is getting established in her career and the youngest is just out of college. I'm happy to help them in whatever way possible and listen to what is going on -- but there's very little reciprocation and interest in my life. I get tired of reaching out and listening to everything about their lives and not getting single whiff of interest in return -- about me or my kids. I've been stepping away for the last year.

3 years apart. We are middle aged and get along fine at this point but have never been close. We are very different in terms of personality plus our parents played favorites and set us up to compete. Our kids are similar in age and (like my sister and I) get along okay with each other but aren't close. We live in neighboring suburbs. I feel envious of those with close sibling relationships.
