True story: I taught at a school that regularly had holiday parties and end of year celebrations at a bar just outside the neighborhood. I refuse to pay for parking so I always walked over. One time, we emerged to find several officers pulling drivers over as they exited the garage. A coworker got caught. We tried to comfort her verbally during the process. She was 23 and skinny. Two rail drinks put her just over the limit. The arresting officer yelled at us: “I hate teachers.” I remembered him and experienced satisfaction when years later, he was arrested for DUI.

I can’t support drunk driving or being drunk at school, but teachers are no different than a lot of professions. Including cops.

If you send an anonymous email then you might not get a response if you go to the principal you might get a backlash. I know there are rules in terms of what you can share from Maryland Judiciary Case Search.

I think I would just have a face to face meeting with the principal.

Not OP, but I teach in MCPS and I drive students when we take small group field trips and my club competes. DH drives 2-3 students home from athletic practice because they have extenuating circumstances.

DUI can be a red flag. If your child noticed behavior that led your child to suspect that the teacher is under the influence of something, you should definitely let the principal know. Maybe the teacher has some other medical problem that is causing incoherence.

DUI does not always come up in a background check. It did not come up for MCPS guidance counselor, Colin Black. Public urination did not seem to be on the radar of MCPS, either. The final straw was when women he met on Tinder accused him of assault.
