No, the standard for racism is different than the standard for being offensive. I keep holding out hope that conservatives will eventually figure this out, but I'm continually let down.
Maybe you could help us by defining each offensive circumstance and where it ranks, starting with the worst first. You've got racism. Whites vs. blacks, Latinos, Chinese, etc. Then the opposite where the minorities defame the whites. Next misogamy. Here woman vs. woman, man vs. woman. After that homophobic disparaging, from both straight males and straight females. Then transgender bashing, how does that rank in the list? Finally, explain how each remark is either a joke or slanderous based upon who says it, e.g. an entertainer/comedian/politician/company employee/service worker of the following classes, male or female, black or white, etc.
I am not very versed in the degree of outrage that each remark warrants in any given circumstance so please help me better understand. Also, for each let me know if it is an offense worth of firing, or if an apology or saying it was simply a joke would serve to make it go away

I think the question is what was going on in Roseanne's mind when she made that tweet. Was the Planet of the Apes comparison motivated by VJ's race or her appearance? From actually seeing a picture of her I can believe that the comparison was motivated by her appearance and not her race.

I'm pretty conservative and think Roseanne's comment was beyond disgusting and reprehensible.

I think that it is easy to believe that White has had very little exposure to the type of history, culture, or social interactions which would have informed him of the religion of the Rothschilds. Roseanne, on the other hand, has been involved in politics for a long time. She has been a promoter of Obama-related conspiracy theories. She knew enough about Jarrett to have known that she was born in Iran. As central as race is to the anti-Obama conspiracy-theorists, I have a hard time believing that Roseanne wasn't aware of Jarrett's race. It's possible that Roseanne didn't know, but it seems very unlikely. If Roseanne thought Jarrett was Iranian, which is one story I've heard, then it really highlights how going down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole has really affected her. I wonder what else she thinks she knows that is completely wrong?

What is no surprise? No surprise that he believed it in White's case but is less inclined to believe it in Roseane's case? White and Roseanne are both idiots, so I'd say if you are giving a pass to White for antisemtitc statements due to ignorance, you'd need to give the same pass to Roseanne's racist statement due to ignorance. Otherwise, it's a double standard.

Where I grew up, there was one Jewish family in town, who sent 2 kids to my HS. Forget Muslim. So a lot of liberals are more comfortable with Islamophobia, because they are uncomfortable around Muslims. They know they “shouldn’t be”. But they are. But they deal with different races every day.
ABC does not want to go within a million miles of the anti-Muslim crack, because a lot of Americans are anti-Islamophobia in theory. In practice, Muslims make them uneasy. Because they have no experience with Muslims— or really any cultural diversity. Whereas my kids grow up with all sorts of religious and cultural diversity. But do not have the same experiences with SES diversity I had growing up in the rural south.
Aside from the fact that Roseanne's been generally racist and Islamophobic, she specifically libeled George Soros by accusing him of giving Jews up to the Nazis. So, at some level, her racism and Islamophobia are side issues. The core issue is that she's spreading damaging lies about specific people committing terrible crimes.

DNA mixes in wierd ways. Per this article, you can for example have a parent who is 40% "italian" DNA, yet the child is also 40% italian, even when the other parent has no italian DNA.
