The bar used to be to send their own kid to DC schools, but now your want a prerequisite that they attended DCPS 20-40 years ago? You people are pathetic.

Yeah, my first thought was, she's nuts and it's not good for us as a city to have a newly single mom mayor.

Then I remembered that my hero is Tammy Duckworth. Who I just like better politically. But just because I don't like Bowser as mayor doesn't mean I shouldn't be proud and excited that she's breaking through this barrier.


I’m happy you came along in your thinking but it’s sad that your first instinct was so negative but positive with Duckworth. It shows why so many people’s first instinct is to discriminate against new mothers.

Not sure many middle class families attended DCPS back then, outside of perhaps JKLM etc. schools.


Why would only people from middle class families be in the running for Council? I think this says more about candidate recruitment than anything else.

I'm not defending her as a mayor, but I think this speaks more to our society and the lack of compassion and understanding for new moms, and new dads too. I wish her and baby well, and wish it was acceptable for new parents, including ones with high profile jobs, to take time off.

I hope it's an open adoption, if that's what the birth mother wished. Congratulations to the birth mother as well for bringing life into this world and being so selfless as to offer a child for adoption whom she presumably didn't feel she could raise at this time. Never forget the other parents in the adoption family.
