see folks.. a solution that doesn't require spending several hundreds dollar every one to two years.
How on earth a 5s is operating in iOS whatever version we are on is beyond me but it is not the norm. It's not about wanting a new phone every two years. Eventually, the operating system currently in place is not operable by the older phones. An iPhone 4 might make a call but at this point that is ALL it can do.
I had a 5 till a year ago. Now I have an SE that I will keep as long as possible because of the size. They work just fine. You don't need the newest operating system.

*shrug* I don’t restrict myself solely to things I NEED. Most people living in society don’t either. Do you?
It’s OK to get things just because you want them.
DP... sure, but the problem is that most people with this attitude end up in deep debt, and come on here saying, "I make six figures but still drowning debt". New iphones are pretty dang expensive and to buy one every year for most people is fairly extravagant. I bet you weren't buying new tvs every year.
This, I can buy what I want within reason but it makes no sense to get a new phone every year or two nor does it set a good example to our kids. Plus, I use my computer and iPad more than my phone. I only use my cell when I'm out. I just don't care about a phone. We could afford it, but it seems better to put that money in the college fund.

I also have a 5s, and it still worked fine with the original battery until earlier this year. Thinking I'll replace the battery before Christmas. DH just replaced his 4 for an X. Both of us work in IT / engineering.
