Our son was on the waitlist at Sligo Creek (low teens) and we get our invitation today. We were thinking we had a good shot of making it in but that was quicker than expected....

When we went to the Maryvale orientation they told us how many applications they usually get. I did a quick mental calculation and it came out to a 15-20% chance for Kindergarten.

Can anyone tell me their thoughts on the Chinese partial immersion program? Specifically, the Bayard Rustin (formerly College Garden location) program. It looks, based on my daughter's lottery number, that she may get in. Thanks!

We applied for 1st grade Chinese Immersion. We got #15 on the waitlist a Bayard and #30 in Potomac. I'm pretty sure potomac is a no. But is do you think we realistically have a chance in Bayard?

The problem with first grade is they are not adding classes so you are just filling in holes from kindergarten attrition so there are less spots.

My guess is that it would change from year to year whether how deep they go onto the waitlist, it probaly just depends on the makeup of people in front of you. This is for kindergarten but 3 years ago one of my neighbors son was 25th and he got accepted fairly soon after the release of the list but conversely, a year later another neighbor's daughter was 13th at the same school and she did not get accepted until a week before school.

I would go under mental assumption that you will not get in and maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised. You could call the office to
Find out about application numbers.

Not that we're counting on a spot, but that does suggest they thought the results would be out by the end of this week, although I don't know what happens if they draw your number and you haven't received an ID number yet.

If you are going to be going to a MCPS you need to register your child anyway before their Home school orientation which a lot of have already taken place. If not I would imagine they’d give you a few days to register.

I have heart it's harder to get into immersion program after Kindergarden.

We also got waitlisted at #24 for Chinese Immersion at Potomac ES. Any chance for this school for 1st grade?

You have a good chance at Maryvale but might not get in until later in the year. We got in with #10 on the WL in January a few years ago for 1st grade. We've been really happy with the school and so grateful to have gotten that spot. Good luck!

First grade waitlisted for Chinese in the teens. Seems like we probably won’t have much of a shot. Fingers crossed though!

Do busses pick up the kids for these programs?

My friend's child moved into RCF Spanish in 1st grade this December. I believe her waitlist number was 14 or 15. If you're willing to let your child move mid-year, the wait list goes quickly. People are less likely to accept the inconvenience of going to a non-home school once the year has started and routines /logistics have already been established.
