DP here. I agree it's a great venue, but I'm not sure it's good for an August wedding.

Similarly the Greenbelt Marriott will be less costly than hotels in DC.

When we looked at that (quite a few years ago) we crossed it off our list because there is no a/c, which would be a bad idea in August.

It's not that unconventional, but if you went to Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, you can get venue and catering easily within your budget. The bonus is that the Holiday Inn is right across the parking lot which means that guests traveling and staying can walk back to their hotel without driving.

Maybe not unconventional but the Hill Center grounds. I’d suggest renting out Little Pearl but it would probably blow your budget.

One of the best weddings I've ever been to was at the bumper car pavillion at Glen Echo. Highly recommended!
