All of you complainers have yourselves to blame. Resolve to realize that. And change it if you really want to.

A lot of this is makework that you take on because you want to or think “someone should,” so I really don’t feel bad for the moms who are like gee so exhausted but you do Elf on the Shelf, bake cookies for neighbors, and spend time looking for yet more decor crap to buy for your house that now has to be set out, then stored, then set out again.

DH and I do what we want to do, and no more. You will not find Elf on the Shelf, Advent calendars, or an entire light-up Thomas Kinkeade Painter of Light village in our home.

I have the same husband and it sucks. I have given up. So much effort and he is lounging on the couch waiting for the magic to happen. I’m done.

Yes!!! I am so resentful. Moms never get a break or day off. NEVER. According to DH, everything that goes wrong is my fault and no one is appreciative or thankful. The kids watch him and are learning his ways. I would not have gotten married or had children with this man if I knew how soul-sucking this would be.

I am so grateful for the gutsy honesty about how some of you are sick and tired of hosting holidays too! My adult kids - 34 and 26 are getting ready to see some changes next year ( thanks for the ideas!)… scaling waaayyy back and delegating meals and clean up for every day they are here- ( usually a week). I don’t mind cooking some nice meals but not every damn one!( My husband thinks he is available to help, but it’s rare that he jumps in). I’m 61- I think I’m still trying to give these adults a magical Christmas and I am exhausted and resentful. I’m ready for the grandkids to arrive because Christmas is really about creating magical memories for children and , of course, enjoying friends and family while celebrating Jesus’ birth.

I meet so many people who are sick of doing everything for every holiday but refuse to let their daughter in laws or daughters take the reins.

I am teaching my kids all I know in terms of practical life, including managing celebrations, so that they can fly the nest with the rudiments of a socialized adult.

The person I resent is my spouse, who couldn't care less if we never saw anybody and who wouldn't notice knee-deep filth in the house, let alone lift a finger! He's a lost cause. I've given him easy to-do lists which he has managed to not do. I've let him be in charge of the holidays and he has done nothing. Yes, he has ADHD which he refuses to treat. So I ignore him for my sanity around each holiday.
