We painted both his and mine together, and it was an incredibly rewarding bonding experience for us. He's three. When he went back to his mother's house, she freaked out about it and immediately took nail polish remover to his fingers (MUCH worse than the actual nail polish) and lectured him about nail polish being bad. Nail polish, even on boys, especially every once in a while, is no big deal, and parents should watch out for being too overprotective. My stepson now tells girls that they're bad because they're wearing nail polish.
My son, who loves to paint anything, would absolutely want to paint his nails if he saw me painting mine (which I never do) but my husband would totally flip the hell out. Everyone and their gender needs, ugh.
Reminds me of all the controversy over the JCrew ad a few months back.
