Wonder why the success rates on IUI are so low and haven't really improved with technology and over time

IUI got us the closest we've ever been. unfortunately that was a CP.

I didn't go back and read all the posts, but IUIs can be a good stepping stone for IVF. Its a good way to see how you will react to meds.

I know the q is where were you successful but I think its equally imp. to know what to avoid with respect to IUIs. I did 3 IUIs with Shady Grove. The first two included just a baseline ultrasound and no further monitoring. I was instructed to track my ovulation using at-home opks and no trigger; they did not test blood to make sure I had ovulated. I am v. sure there was user error and am not at all confident the procedures were done on the correct day. If I knew then what I knew now there is no way I would have wasted time/money on that. Given that I was out of pocket, I also would not have wasted what amounted to the cost of a cycle of IVF on the 3 IUIs.


I agree, I think if you're going to do IUI it's definitely worth it to do blood work and u/s monitoring.

My friend with secondary infertility had her 3rd and 4th by IUI.

Columbia Fertility on the third try. Technically I was with Dr Rifka but Dr Sacks did one of the IUIs and Signey the CNM/NP did one because all the doctors were at a conference. I was annoyed about this at the time but it’s a pretty low-tech procedure, she was wonderful, and that was the one that worked. I know folks on here have mixed reviews of CFA but I had a good experience.

Shady Grove, Dr. Reh. Third IUI worked, he’s 8 weeks old now.

I think the context where I've heard IUI is a waste of time is where you have DOR or lowered fertility due to your age. 6 months is a lot of time for your fertility if you're already nearing 40. We went straight to IVF. I do have a friend who conceived from IVF I think on her 5th try.

My second injectables + IUI cycle worked. Implantation seemed to be my issue (scarring from endo), so this really just upped the odds b/c I triggered 3-4 eggs each time.

After 22 months of infertility hell to get DD, I got pregnant quickly and on my own w/ my second (DS) and third (early pregnancy at the moment, so fingers crossed). Pregnancy/bfing helps treat endo, so for me IUI was not only successful but broke the cycle so I didn't need help for future pregnancies.

IUI is not a waste of time, but you’ll need a hsg to confirm your tubes are patent. Pointless if your Fallopian tubes are obstructed. IMHO, iui works for most younger folks, if you’ve tried it 5-6 times with no luck it’s time for ivf. There are so many factors that play into ones fertility. Uterine lining, age/egg quality, timing, egg reserve, luck.

IUI is worth a try if there’s nothing wrong with you.

Our second unmedicated iui worked. DH’s sperm was of low quality.
