We switched from a VA private in K to Brent for 1st grade this year. Academics not quite as strong in DCPS but community atmosphere lovely and specials excellent. New principal at Brent is impressive.
She was the principal at Janney for several years. She is quite good.
I personally miss her, she is a force of nature in a very good way.

So you left Sidwell, GDS or Beauvoir to go back to Janney or Mann before 5th grade? really?
Multiple kids, different schools. And two others on this thread have said the same, including a teacher who taught at both. If you have friends at the other schools with kids in the same grade, ask them.
Ah. I was confused, because the post you're responding to, and the title of this thread, is about families who 'switched from private to public elementary'
I have yet to meet a family in my neighborhood who affirmatively *left* GDS, Sidwell or Beauvoir to attend Janney/Murch/Layfayette (I'm equidistant to all three) but I assume it has happened. Probably due to money
I'm sure you are intending to sound like a snob (and succeeding), but thankfully most people in these neighborhoods are far more gracious about other people's decisions.

Yes, people lose or change jobs, divorces, reassessment of finances and desire for neighborhood school experience, etc.
