This so depends on your job and your jobs culture. I’m a lawyer. When I was in private practice not in DC, sure. Not everyday. But a glass of wine at a nice client lunch. As a Fed? Good God no. I will sometimes open up a hard cider on Friday afternoons I telework while I spend the last half hour wrapping things up and I feel a little guilty.

If you are a teacher, a healthcare professional, or work in public safety probably not.

For your job, if your sense is that it’s not a good idea, it’s probably not a good idea.

Me and a few of the Indians at the office sometimes do a "Turbans and Bourbons" lunch on Fridays

In France, my home country, it’s normal.

Heck, my teachers had individual bottles of red or white available in the school cafeteria.

Of course yay.

2 martinis at the bar of the Hamilton...at least twice a week.

Funny! A lawyer took me to Gary's... I was a witness in a case and didn't want to give up the other witnesses name so we called him Gary the whole time.

But, in the 90s when I was a lobbyist, I used to have to go into Garys Restaurant downtown to retrieve our top lobbyist who was always drunk ... and he even testified on Capitol Hill several times while drunk. It was during the "good ole boys days". I'm not a boy, and still can't believe people would drink with co-workers. I think it's stupid.

Omg no. I work in a position where I frequently make the newspaper and if I was ever seen out at lunch drinking alcohol, it would be the end for me.

I don't think its a big deal. However I work in healthcare and at our hospital you would be in big trouble if someone found out. In fact we even require employees that are on powerful medications to self report to employee health so we can re-assign job duties if necessary. The folks in risk management think that it would be huge liability if a patient were to get hurt and some lawyer found out that the provider had a drink.

Depends on your job and the reason--is it a Friday or a celebratory beverage? Or is it just a sunny Tuesday?

It’s ok, we also sometimes have beer and wine catered in the office at lunch events.

Our attitude is we can have nice things as long as nobody abuses it. So far nobody has.

In Europe it's completely normal for workers to have a drink at lunch.
