Most of their friends who divorced or were widowed remarried. Of course, there's always more women than men but it's far less common to have a significant age gap between spouses - unless, of course, you're looking for a wealthy man who may see a much younger woman as a status symbol.
Two friends married (second marriages) in their 60s. Both got married to younger, professional, attractive, thin woman.
A friend got married for the first time when he was 49, to a 27-year-old.
I dated a guy who was 49 and never married. I'm 48 and divorced. I broke it off with him. He needed a 30 year old. He just didn't have the maturity that I needed. In many ways, he was still a kid who makes a lot of money and has unrealistic expectations.

Our relationship was getting very serious but he was the one who broke it off because of the "I'll be 80 and you'll only be 60" problem. He was right but it still hurt to lose him.

I’m a 42yr old woman. The idea of dating someone 20 yrs older than me seems odd. I think of the long term. When I’m 62, you’d be 81. Do you find many 40 yr old women to date?
Statistically, when you're 62 he'll be dead and you'll be spending his money.
I'm 42 y/o and I'd run for the hills unless he has $3+mm cash. 10 years in dementia care at $10K/month plus the adult children's money expectations would mean he has to have serious money left for me. I have a toddler and know a lot of moms my age and older with small kids, so taking care of an elderly spouse, small children, and aging parents would be too much to handle. I also enjoy sex and a 61 y/o man is on his last leg, sorry. There's so much Viagra can do.
Long story short, nope unless super wealthy and almost dead. None of my single 40 something girlfriends dream of men over 50.

My guess is fewer women remarry as their financial ability to live alone increases. So today, years later, your mother might not remarry. And in this area, women's expectations run high, they run into a prince shortage, and they stay single.

I've seen many celebrities in person (media job) and believe me, they don't look anything close to their public photos.
I had a client who was a news anchor and it was amazing how different she looked on tv vs in real life. On tv she was easily a 9, in person she was maybe a 6.
I once saw Cheryl Tiegs in real life. She is a good looking woman but nothing like you see in photo shoots. Like the news anchor, they have lighting, makeup, and certain profiles they use. Also, some people are naturally photogenic.
