If one is female to male transgender (the better way to say this is "Assigned Female at Birth" by the way), then your friend has two queer kids, one is a son (a trans boy) and one is a cisgender lesbian. Fixed it for you.

Fully half my DD's female classmates claim they're bisexual or lesbian. Statistically based on numbers, 2 should be lesbian and 2 or 3 more bisexual. Instead, at least 15 of them claim to be lesbian.

It certainly is to some.

Two years ago a few kids were using opposite sex change rooms. One was in ds's class. At this point it seems like nobody does.

I, personally, am a 35 year old woman who conforms to all gender stereotypes: long blonde hair, I wear makeup, I'm quite feminine. But I certainly appreciate that there are gender non-conforming people in the world to remind others that having a vagina does not mean I must wear makeup, and having a penis does not mean I can't. Those are just societal rules we can choose to conform to, or not.

What I find fascinating in *my* family is that my otherwise-gender-conforming nephew has just come out as transgender, even though he looks, behaves, conducts self (think "manspreading" when sitting, hulking gait, interest in male-dominated education fields, no desire to dress "like a girl" and so forth) in ways that would identify as BOY/DUDE. I asked with genuine desire to understand, "what makes you identify as a girl instead of just as a gay man?" And she didn't have an answer. Just says "I just have always felt that I'm a girl."
Has definitely made me look at my own gender (and trans) stereotypes a little more critically! Because I think most people accept that having a vagina doesn't make you want to wear makeup (I know lots of women who don't--gay or straight), but I kind of assumed those born with a penis who later came out as identifying as women do so partly out of motivation to conform to that "other" gender.
But apparently having a penis and identifying as a girl ALSO does not make you want to wear makeup or necessarily "conform" to societal gender norms of the other gender either.

I was a teen tomboy who cut my hair short and never wore pink or anything frilly. I'm a happily married mother of two. I'm still not girly but I'm a woman. I'm be very confused in today's atmosphere.
