What is your dentist's rate if a patient misses an appointment? Almost all doctors/dentists charge missed appointment fees and I think it is fine to reciprocate. I would send a note and an itemized bill detailing the costs your dentist incurred to you by cancelling surgery at the last minute: missed work, childcare, even travel fees. I'm quite serious.

Op here: Both teeth are impacted. It's not a simple case. Now apparently the dentist is only available during the week.

You have every right to be mad because he changed his availability. That would piss me off too if I specifically looked for a doctor who has Saturday availability.

My spouse is a dentist.

When his mom had terminal cancer he told the staff to say that something came up. It was just too difficult for him to talk about.

Just got mine out at 35 with local and it was fine.

I had the procedure done that morning, took some pain pills when I got home, and slept most of the rest of the day. I began eating soft foods the next day and felt well enough to venture out to run a few errands with my husband. I lost maybe 5 pounds from sticking with solids, but it wasn't some huge traumatic experience that people had made it out to be.

Needing a week to recover? That's uber dramatic in my book.

NP. That’s great for you, but anesthesia has a very powerful effect on me and I slept for 20 hours out of the first 24 after my wisdom teeth were removed. Everyone doesn’t have the same experience.

NP. I had my wisdom teeth (and other teeth) out with local. I can't imagine risking general anesthesia for teeth.

Same, but my uncle is an anesthesiologist and impressed on us the dangers of using general anesthesiology on harmless procedures for pure comfort.

My oral surgeon gave me local anesthesia and then some of the nitrous oxide gas. I popped my earbuds in and didn't hear a thing. He was done very quickly. All of my wisdom teeth were erupted and straight, though.

There is no requirement by any licensing or oversight bodies of health care providers for them to provide personal details about their own lives, unless freely offered. And HIPAA applies to everyone, including dentists, so other provider staff shouldn't provide that info without permission.

You can decide you don't want to go somewhere for any reason you want, including that they won't give you details about your dentist's urgent medical needs, or whatever. But honestly, you don't have a right to know. You have a right to be contacted ASAP if they need to reschedule, and you should as common courtesy have your needs regarding rescheduling accommodated insofar as possible.

I would be pretty mad, and I would let them know.

I almost had a surgery rescheduled at the last minute last summer, and I was very clear that we had a complex set of childcare arrangements, including already purchased flights, and I didn't care which surgeon at the practice did the procedure, but that it was very important it happen in a certain time frame.

They fixed it.

I doubt there are too many dentists out there chomping at the bit to do Saturday surgeries.

Although it's not the same if they are impacted teeth (lots of peoples are), then it is a surgery--though a not too bad out patient one.

But yeah, stuff happens to doctors too. I wouldn't want a not 100% because they are unwell person working on my teeth--you know how many nerve endings there are in the area? You can have major complications from screwed up dental work.

I do understand but OP did not indicate that there were complications other than her being a big ass baby and maybe her wisdom teeth are indeed in her ass
