The sudden sexual tension between them was obvious and I think was supposed to be kind of funny. People laughed in the theater I saw it in.
I read that the purpose of that scene was to show people that they saw each other as opposed to just hearing each other’s voice.
My teen DD (huge fan of the movie) told me that the director said just that in an interview. It ties in with the first time the two characters communicate with what we're calling "ForceTime" at our house. That first time, Kylo Ren says, "Can you see my surroundings? I can't see yours" (or pretty close to that), and the fact Rey later sees him clearly -- I'd say, clearly enough to be pretty discomfited at catching him shirtless -- reinforces that they increasingly can see each other better, until they're actually able to touch later on.
Whoa, way too much interpretation of "The Last Jedi" going on in our house, I think....
