Yeah but it’s kind of like the HGTV shows where people want a bigger, upgraded house in their same neighborhood for the same mortgage they’re paying now. Good luck!

True. But the question can be answered.

If you don't wish to answer OP's question start a spinoff thread on why mid Atlantic skiing is rarely worth it.

Snowshoe is worth it when you have kids who are still learning. Big waste of money to fly them out west when they can't handle those slopes yet.

We started our kid out west. For us it wasn't a waste of money - our 4 year old was skiing greens from the top of the mountain by day two and my husband and I enjoyed a week of amazing skiing while the kids were in full day lessons. They had super experienced teachers and the conditions were more of a sure thing than at Snowshoe (we flew out on Southwest and would have cancelled had conditions been bad). That said, I still want my kids to ski at local places and in New England so they can deal with cold and ice. But I was happy to have them start somewhere with great conditions where it was 40 degrees and sunny. I was worried a bad first experience might turn them off to the sport. If our budget was tighter we would have done Snowshoe or driven to VT.

Have never been to Camelback but wonder how it compares to Snowshoe.

I went to Seven Springs for the first time today and liked it - though keep in mind I'm not an expert skier. I haven't been to Snowshoe, though I am interested in checking it out sometime.

Lobby is extremely beautiful and comfortable. You pay to stay there and you get the water park and ski in/out included. We’ve stayed several times and loved it each time.
I wouldn’t say the buffet dinner is perfect but it’s conveniently in the hotel and there is a huge selection to choose from. The breakfast is fabulous.
Our family loved it all - especially the water park with the huge indoor/outdoor hot tubs.

I was the one who said it was awful and I will say it again...so totally not a luxury resort. More like a Holiday Inn crammed with hundreds of screaming children - totally overcrowded.

It’s all relative. Some people are so snobby that unless it’s $1000 per night it can’t be luxury.

All things considered, Snowshoe is my favorite from DC. We go to Eagle Rock (Poconos) often too. 4 hours door to door from DC.

Mt Snow, Stratton, and Killington are closer.

+1 to wintergreen. People can drive to Charlottesville if they need a town day.

Don't know about berkshires but no resort in the Catskills has a spa or a swanky vibe.

I wouldn't consider bear mountain hotel luxury. It is on par with a mid level Hilton or Marriott.

Okay so what are your top 5 resorts that have blue diamond hills and maybe a black diamond? All but one of us are beginners.

Is this OP? If you are all beginners just go to Wintergreen!

Anonymous wrote:Look online at Snowshoe - Corduroy Inn is their nicest boutique type hotel. See if that looks nice enough for you. If not, you'll need to drive a little further.
Snowshoe is totally fine for us, and definitely ski wise enough if you said mediocre skiing is fine. We usually stay at Soaring Eagle which is also nice. Not sure how DCUMers ever goes anywhere as picky as they are.

+1 to all of the above. Especially to the bold.

I think the point is that OP needs to compromise on at least one aspect of her wishlist. This is pushing it in terms of distance, but I think the Berkshires or Catskills would have more of the atmosphere she is looking for.
