till he folds...I think a lot of Florida's income is property taxes, a cap on the deductibility may make Florida less appealing to rich retirees etc

Florida has homestead deductions for FL residents that significantly lower the property taxes. No income cliffs like in some other states. If you have a house in FL and it's not your residence you might pay 20 or 25% more than a long term resident.

The volume of PR's is straining affordable housing, schools, etc. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/17/us/puerto-ricans-orlando.html "Some Puerto Rican community leaders are encouraging the newcomers to head north to New York or Philadelphia, where state benefits are more robust and there are fewer new arrivals." Some areas in states have had to change affordable housing-section 8- etc because people stay longer with their relatives etc than the leases permit.

So yes-Rubio is looking for more cash for low income people. That is an entitlement and he wants their FICA payments cut. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/marco-rubio-tax-bill_us_5a32d0efe4b040881be8dd4e "Rubio and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) want a more progressive change. Currently, the credit is only partially refundable, meaning if it pushes a family’s tax bill beneath zero, they can’t necessarily get the full value of the credit as cash. Rubio and Lee want all or most of the expanded credit to be refundable, and for parents to be able to count payroll taxes taken out of their wages against their taxable income. That way, more could get cash payments from the refundable credit. "

So what he wants is an above the line adjustment to get to AGI only it's fica. Like teachers 500 in the senate plan

This tax bill is insanity. Nobody knows what’s in it, but they are all sure it’s going to pass creating huge deficits. What kind of idiot policy cuts taxes during economic expansion? That’s when Government should be raising taxes. Deficit spending worked well to get us out of the financial crisis. That won’t be a possibility next time because of the existing massive debt. Plus, it will happen because Trump is cutting all the regulations that keep businesses honest.

Rubio wants an additional entitlement. Money back that never went into the treasury. Increase in refundable child tax credit. Rubio had also been lobbying for refundable FICA.

Both are just ridiculous. http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/14/politics/marco-rubio-tax-vote/index.html
How much more free stuff is he looking for? Florida has no income tax BUT it is now supporting many from Puerto Rico.

Yes, please explain. Is this refundable child tax credit given to people who don't even pay taxes? Sounds like a form of welfare.

yep.. from a R. They are such hypocrites.

Unbelievable. And Rubio's going to hold the tax bill hostage over more welfare? Sorry, but tax cuts are for people who pay taxes.

It’s not going to be a tax cut for everyone who pays taxes. So there’s that.

Then that makes it worse. Some people who already pay taxes won't get a cut, but others who don't pay a cent will get money?

Yes, the super wealthy who play fun games with their taxes will pay even less than the zero they now. Joy!

So who cares about free stuff? The tax bill essentially borrows a trillion(or 2) and gives it to corporations. Yes we are borrowing money to give it to corporations. So shut your f’ing mouth and empty another bucket into the pig trough. One more bucket will not make any difference in the ocean of give aways that is this bill.

I am having a hard time understanding what Rubio is doing. Do we have a lot of Floridians who don't pay taxes but have lots of children? If they get tax credit against their payroll taxes, wouldn't that reduce their social security contribution -- which will result in a smaller payoff in retirement years?

Blows up the deficit and increases the debt service by an order of magnitudes. It's a dangerous bill that is a threat to national security.
