The reason is simple: detestation of Trump is the only thing that Democrats agree on. Other than this, they are split quite badly between the ultra-liberal wing of the party headed by Sanders and Warren and the more pragmatic liberals who fit into the Hillary mold. We don't have anything even mildly resembling a united Democratic party.
