chocolate cake with "Lobster tail" cream filling (that's a mixture of canoli cream and whipped cream).
I remember loving it at the tasting, but I don't remember how it tasted at the reception (too busy having fun and dancing and drinking, lol).

20+ years here - white cake, white frosting (traditional) with fresh flowers on top and fresh strawberries on the side

That's what we had, too - I don't remember if I even got to eat any. I'm sure it was fine! The rest of the food was good - we got married at one of our favorite restaurants.

Try the southern caramel cake at Danielle's in the Galleria, Tysons Corner. To die for and is probably similar to what you remember.

I made my daughter’s Wedding cake. She wanted my southern caramel cake. I wish she had wanted a bakery cake. I’ve made caramel cake hundreds of times. Still, I was a nervous wreck making it for a wedding. Thankfully, it was perfect. My son and his fiancé have asked me to make theirs.

They must be pretty special! I have t seen them around here much -- except at Danielle's.

Real caramel cakes can be tricky to make. Even the weather matters when making caramel icing.

Vanilla with vanilla bean filling and white buttercream frosting. Fresh roses on top.

It tasted pretty good one year later.

Carrot cake - both our favorites

Marble poundcake with chocolate truffle filling, white buttercream frosting. It was fabulous. For several years after DH and I got a small version of it from the same bakery for our anniversary.

1993. Chocolate cake with white frosting, made by hotel caterer. No fondant. It was delicious even a year later.

Almond cake with strawberry cream cheese filling and white buttercream. It was heaven! We were married 10 years ago.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't remember. It was delicious with white frosting I do remember that much.

Amen, and I was only married 8 years ago. I think ours was lemon on the top tier, almond on another and I can't remember the third. Chocolate maybe?

Married 20 years ago, and I can tell you the cake, but I still think you shouldn't sweat the small stuff. (I picked a cake DH & I loved and the guests liked it. But I guarantee none of them could tell you today what it was.)
