There are about 150 students in the conservatory and of those maybe 40-50 are dual degree. My daughter has a friend who is trying for dual degree but might switch to just arts and sciences and just take music classes because it's a HUGE commitment. The students live together and many of my daughter's first year dormmates are in "the Con". I wouldn't worry about them being segregated.
There are actually 600 students in the conservatory, not 150. My DC is a recent grad and loved Oberlin. There is something for everyone at Oberlin. Living in a cooperative is a fun alternative to dorm living. Visiting for accepted student weekend is a great way to check out the social scene.
I was PP who wrote that - I meant per class there are 150 so that does make about 600 total. And I agree that the accepted students weekends are great to see how you like the social scene. My first year daughter has been so happy and made great friends. She isn’t a big party person but she does small group activities with her buddies. They do drink sometimes but it’s not the focus. They play in the weekly trivia competition at the local coffee shop, cook, play games, do road trips to visit friends at other Ohio schools and like to attend conservatory concerts that their friends play in. It’s a nice, accepting group of kids and we have seen how well adjusted she is compared to some of her high school friends. Go visit and don’t believe the negative things you read on DCUM.
