I also don't see why anyone would be upset by a US citizen living in China or Russia or anywhere. This thread is about undocumented kids receiving services from the US government. US citizens living in other countries are not costing taxpayers any money. If they decide to move here, when they are children or adults, then they will be ordinary US citizens who have lived abroad (and I assume you are). I just don't see why people are angry about this.

You actually think China or Russia or any other country would be just fine with a US citizen living in their country, and receiving benefits from the host country's government? Plenty of US citizens live abroad - but they're either US government employees, private industry employees, or self-employed, and they're ALL there on legal visas. They don't just pick up, move to a foreign country, and expect that country to pick up the tab on everything from their kids' education to their entire family's healthcare. It is not illegal to hold dual citizenship. Some countries frown on it, but it's not generally illegal. As I said, I don't understand why you're angry, upset, confounded by women on tourist visas coming to this country to have their babies, then taking their babies with dual citizenship back home with them to raise there. The children are receiving benefits from "the host country's government" because they are dual citizens. Please explain more to me because I don't understand why this is such a problem.

DP here. We must pay for our citizens. But, to say that the undocumented who come here are not an expense is deceptive. And, please note that the $19k is likely a minimum cost as these kids likely need more services: ESOL, etc. and possibly special needs.

While they are American Citizens and here to stay, they should have never been and more are born each day to parents that should not be in this country. This is why we need a big beautiful wall, enforce harsh penalties for companies that employ illegals, and jail those who overstay Visas. Once the incentive to come is extinguished, the remaining problem can then be managed.

What does this have anything to do with illegals and braces? Maybe you should stay on topic.

The intent of birthright citizenship was not anchor babies as practiced today including birthright tourism and border crossing births-come in from Mexico-birth and return. I knew people who flew over from Asia, ME, Africa to give birth. Relatives of friends of mine or my kids. One family from the ME had 1 daughter [3 US births], 4 cousins on multiple tourist visa visits. A friend here legally from Mexico has had 5 family members-no one is poor.

You do know we're not talking about the rich, right?

+1. Your daughter definately does not know WTF she is talking about. Illegal immigrants only get Medicaid under very limited emergency circumstances. ER stabilization and child birth are the biggies. Kids who are not here lawfully are not getting orthodontia. Even Medicaid eligible kids need to show medical necessity, as opposed to cosmetic purposes. I'm sorry she is unhappy that kids who are here legally, but whose parents speak Spanish get braces if it is deemed medically necessary. Your daughter may be a dental hygienist who serves the Hispanic community, but I do Medicaid policy for a living, and I call BS.

Also, realize that some states choose to be more generous than the floor the federal grand gernment provides. So, take it up with the state.


But -1 on free braces for Congress. Under FEHB, you buy most dental coverage separate. The best you can do with braces, and I checked carefully, is 50% reimbursement, but the plan is expensive. You pretty much break even with one kid in braces. My 2 kids overlapped, so it is worth it.

Now, members of Congress goes under the ACA, so they get what the public gets on the exchanges. Most Congressional staffers are FEHB. So yes, some amount of dental insurance is employer subsidized. But no, Feds and Congress Are not getting amazing dental and free braces.

And to make matters worse, it looks as though we won't even be able to deduct the fortune we pay in County taxes to support the illegals - their education, the anchor babies they have while they're still teens, the ESOL classes, etc. The plan to disallow local taxes might work in areas where there are few illegals, but the Obama administration dumped a lot of them in the MD and VA suburbs. I say there should be an exemption for taxpayers funding school systems with 10% illegals or more.
