Yeah, I believe GOMI is still active, I've seen various Instagrammers complain about it recently.

The Mommy Bloggers one is still going. I've noticed rules there - no bashing a blogger's kids. No interacting with a blogger and then running to GOMI to fan the flames.

She definitely had some severe issues to begin with though... GOMI is the roughest of the rough in terms of criticism but usually they're only criticizing superficial things, like the fact that a lot of them don't disclose sponsorships, lie about products they've used, etc. The woman from MODG really kind of lost it after having her first, I assume from PPD/PPA.

An IG’er I know sign 20k followers and starting to get freebies and stuff. She is Mormon.

It's big time a thing. I would guess that most of the "big time" mommy/lifestyle bloggers are Mormon. Just a few (some of these are now defunct, I believe): Love Taza, NieNie Dialogues, Pink Peonies, Hey Natalie Jean, Hungry Runner Girl, and even Dooce is an ex-Mormon. I think they are able to view it as a ministry in a way.

I have mixed feelings about Gomi. I've seen that it can be very cruel, and I don't think that is okay. And I think it's sad that there are successful bloggers who have quit as a result of Gomi's criticisms. But also, I kind of think it's fair enough for people to want a space to discuss all of this for-profit content based on mass consumption, particularly when it is being sold as "aspirational".

There have been a few threads over the years on DCUM on it, search for Mormon mom or mommy blogs. Also do a google search in case you’re bored/interested. Over the last decade Mormon lifestyle, parenting, fashion and interior design blogs and now Instagram accounts have taken off, and they all promote each other (nothing wrong with that).

That's so sad. I know a local blogger (not sure she was making any money off the blog- more just narrative) who got destroyed on GOMI. How awful that someone makes a living tearing other people down.

How are people being destroyed by this GOMI website? Is it just nasty comments like Fairfax underground?

I do live videos on Periscope/Twitter and have quite a few followers. I regularly go to lunch at a few places and a couple of times I've walked in and they are like "on the house today--one of your fans bought you lunch." People have actually sent these places money saying "pay for lunch next time they drop by".

My blog, Youtube, etc probably makes about $50-$100 a month fwiw.

I used to have a blog that featured quirky products and made about $300/month in affiliate links and ads. This was about 15 years ago, though, while I was in grad school and it fell by the wayside when I got a real job. A neighbor's kid makes a few hundred a month from a slime youtube channel.

I blog about parenting stuff, though I have a hook and the content is not about my own kids. No fancy clothes or furniture or perfect life either—it’s actually heavily researched, substantive content. My life is far from perfect so I would never go down that path. I’d probably end up depressing all the readers looking for escapism and cookie recipes and bowls of lemons or whatever. Though come to think of it, I might make everyone feel better about themselves, so there’s that! I make about $15k a year, but I have to hustle for it. Basically, other more commercial blogs pay me to create content for them because they like my voice and authority. I don’t use advertisers on my own blog, which I mostly started as a way to help others, not as a moneymaker. It did lead to a book deal a few years ago. I got a nice advance (about 50k) but the book itself hasn’t yet started to bring in money for me. It’s quite possible that it will. In the meantime, I’d hardly recommend this as a viable career option, but it’s good side money if you can figure out how to capitalize on what you’re doing. But I also woh.
