Good luck with that. Seriously, good luck. A multi-year gap can be a total career killer, depending on your line of work. I guess not so much for pink collar work.

I had mine 26 months apart and also stayed home until the younger went to kindergarten. Now I work full time in a successful job making a lot more money than I did pre-kids. It's not always the end.

Ridiculous to generalize like this. When I worked in Biglaw several of the male/female associates had their first kid before 30. My college roommate timed her first kid for a particular year of medical school.

My 1st will be lucky if he gets a sibling before Pre-K.

22 months apart. Yes, it was a shit show for the first year of the second's life. Yes, I'm older (35 and 37 with each pregnancy). Yes, it sucked to have spent roughly five years 2011-2016 either pregnant, nursing, toddler wrangling, potty training and sleep deprived.

But now at 3 and 5, I can say it's so, so awesome having two with this age gap. They play well, they are independent, and I actually feel like myself for the first time in years...most due to the ability to sleep uninterrupted

Mine are 2.5 years apart. One school grade between. I absolutely planned a 2.5 year gap. I wanted time between, but not so far out it felt like a chore to go back to baby stuff. By 19 months I was ready to be pregnant again. Sleeping well, had lost all the baby weight, etc.

My brother, sister and I all had one school grade between us and I loved having siblings close in age and at school.

My boys are 9.5 and 12 and have always been extremely close. They have the same interests, play the same sport. 1 camp drop off/pick up.

Most of their friends have brothers the same ages as mine--big brothers same grade, little brothers same grade. Play dates are easy.

I was "old" when I had my first kid, almost 37, so I didn't have a ton of time to wait if I wanted a second, which I definitely did. Just as influential was my desire to have kids close in age. My only sibling is 8 years younger, and as a kid I wished I had a sibling around my age.

Initially I'd considered starting to TTC when #1 was 12 months, but she was in the midst of major bedtime issues then, so I chickened out. We started TTC when she was almost 15 months old. My kids ended up 26 months apart, and now I almost wish they were closer--the little one is 9 months, the older almost 3, and they are in such different stages that the age gap seems bigger than it is (and the almost-3-year-old is NOT a "mature" 3 at all). But I think in a year or two, when they can play together, the difference will seem smaller.

Mine are almost exactly two years apart. We take our vacation at the end of August every year. Our kids are late May/early June birthdays. You do the math.

22 months between my kids. Just as I was weaning the first, I got my period but it was inconsistent. Within a month or so of that, was pregnant. We weren't using protection and it just happened. If I were to plan it, there would never have been a "good time" to have #2. Luckily for us, biology took over and was the best unplanned thing I've done in my whole life.

Most of them are older and SAHMs. I have a huge gap between mine because I was not sure I wanted a second and people are pretty shocked. Most of my friends have a 3 year gap because they breastfeed for 2 years.

I only saw the poster who said she would feel old to have her first kid at 33. Four years is a largish difference. Some people have 2+ kids in that time.

Thank you to all of the incredibly well educated women who had babies at 29. I was replying to the rude poster who stated how very "old" it is to have a baby at 30. I'm sorry you missed that distinction. 29 is basically 30.

I have a law degree and am a practicing lawyer. Ivy-educated. First kid at 29, third (and last) at 33. Sorry to disappoint.

I think a lot depends on when you meet a partner and get married. My friends who got married at 26 or 27 had kids at 29 or 30. Those who, like me, got married at 29 or 30 had kids around 33 or not at all. I married at 29, switched jobs 6 months later, then had mine at 33 and 36. Sister married at 30, had kids at 32 and 35. Etc.

Wel mine are exactly 2 years, 1 month apart. We knew we wanted another child and this is when we felt ready to begin trying again-simple as that.
