Yeah, the whole "low income Latino" thing in the article made me kinda wonder if the author actually talked to any Latino students/parents at Oyster. Sure there are some low income Latino families, but there are a LOT of professionals, embassy staff, NGO employees.

Fits the scrappy diversity narrative. The truth in DC is that most families in DC who "value diversity" are happy if it tips towards embassy staff, NO employees etc. They can have their cake and eat it too. I don't blame them-just think it's humorous when they get super congratulatory about attending a "diverse" school. Yes, in one way. But not in another. If they wanted another they'd bus themselves to some low ses neighborhoods and attend the in bound. Just saying.

Hi Oyster Stalker! I see that you're off your meds and hopping back onto Oyster threads. We missed you.

Different poster,

I don't think it's okay to mock the way that someone speaks. That said, you respond to every critic as if it was only one person. I think that makes you sleep better at night, but it's not true. No one is "stalking" Oyster.

Anyone who trolls DCUM to post unprovoked and untrue statements about the same school over and over again is a stalker. Trust me, no Oyster parents are losing sleep over the school's stalkers. When you're on top, you're a target--it comes with the territory.

Maybe this will start happening once oyster improves its test scores.

Is that why multiple posters reported that teachers routinely yell at students? I've seen it myself too.

Try again Oyster stalker. O-A CONSISTENTLY has the highest scores of any language immersion school in Washington, DC. So the highest test scores that you're going to find are at Oyster--much to your chagrin. All of the other schools are still trying to catch up. But you already know that, right pumpkin?

+100. It's a public school--period. My husband attended "excellent" public schools throughout his life in suburban Boston. He tells me that he had at least 1-2 teachers who yelled every school year. That's in addition to the occasional teacher who said a curse word, in front of the class, out of anger and/or frustration.

I'm not excusing this behavior (yelling/raising ones voice at children). However, some of you are not being realistic. If your child is yelled at, address it with the teacher/school.

It varies year to year. Some years more apply than others and the competition can be stiff. Not everyone who wants to go to Walls will be admitted.
