Op ~ if something causes you to be resentful, and you do nothing to change it, you are a large part of the problem.

I provide about anything someone would want. I have a large basket and keep everything from floss to a new toothbrush to a few soaps and shampoos and conditioners to moisturizer, a few BandAids, a shower cap, sewing kit....I think that is common courtesy. Traveling with liquids is heavy and may make people check a bag...better to just grab a few things and not worry about it. I check and replenish the basket when I am cleaning after people leave. I like having guests though. I think a lot of people who hate hosting look for little things like this to complain about their guests when they just don't actually like having guests, period.

In a shower or on bathtub I provide:
body wash
shampoo
conditioner

sink-soap and tall cup for their toothbrush

will stick some floss/small tube paste/tiny cup with q tips in medicine chest

Done and a pile of washcloths and 2-3 towels .

That is a designated guest bath. If they are sharing in a 2.5 or 1.5 bath house then anything specific to them use a small plastic bucket inc their tootbrush cup and they can cart it in and out of the bathroom. If a guest is driving or bringing a wheelie for a few days then they should bring all their own stuff. Traveling light by train or plane then no bring your own hair dryer.

Some people expect more than is provided in a hotel.

Yes of course you should bring your own toiletries when visiting someone - it's rude to assume that someone will have everything you need. Especially when they are already letting you stay in their home for free!!
