I thought that what Roseanne did was show what her real family looked like. How she used her real family as a basis for the characters in the show, but switched it up (and then in the last episode showed how they actually were). In other words, Jackie was her sister but in real life her sister is gay (and in the show, she just made her having lots of man-problems) in real life, her daughter that is like Darlene married the character that was Becky's husband and her daughter that was like Becky married the John Galeki character.

She was just telling the audience what her real family looked like.

+1. Couldn't watch that show.

+2. Disgusting. John Goodman and George Clooney were the only bright spots in that horrid show.

What? Hahahahaa GC was so not a bright spot; his character was so out of place, I thought.

Also, didn't George Clooney's character hit Jackie? Not exactly a "bright spot."

No, that was Fisher, a different boyfriend. My favorite scene ever with Dan: https://youtu.be/hvj48pfUo3U?t=2m10s

Jackie and Fisher were married for 20 years IRL.

And I know Tom Arnold caught a lot of flack, but I love him in the episode where Dan's in the porta potty, which got knocked over by a wrecking ball. He crawled out with his pants down.
Arnie: It was a really awkward moment. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to start the applause.
Roseanne: Don't you owe us money?
Arnie: I gotta go.
It was the timing...kinda hard to recreate here!

I loved that show growing up. I was Becky's age--high school class of '93...except she didn't graduate because she eloped with Mark...

Anyhow, I'm Roseanne (not fat though) and my sister is Jackie; in real life.

Love. love, love this show.

Growing up, I always felt like Darlene and my sister was Becky. My sister's name is actually Becky, too.

The Crime and Punishment episodes where Jackie's boyfriend beats her is one of my absolute favorites. I don't know how they managed to tackle a serious topic yet keep the comedy rolling but it was flawless (and another reason i to love Dan). When DJ's principal drives up and sees Dan in the back of a police car I lose it with laughter.
