In my case it would not be more truthful. I am not marching simply because I am anti-Trump and your assertion that I am is insulting. I am smarter than that and so are most of the people marching with me. There may be a small number that march just to oppose Trump, but the vast majority of people marching, protesting, and showing up at town halls are marching on the issues. I marched in the women's march and the slogans on my sign addressed health care and had a message for Congress. I marched for Science because I care about our planet, medical research, etc. I showed up at a rally to support fair wages and safe working conditions for workers. I show up because I give a damn about this country, the people who live here, our planet, the people who inhabit it, and our children's future. The people who have been showing up and marching and protesting with me are the same. Read the signs. The majority of them address issues even when they mention Trump. I also talk to people who voted for Trump so that I can understand them and maybe they can understand me. Maybe the country would be in a better place if more Americans would start doing that.
I believe we are all in this together and need to work together for the betterment of all. I look at Congress and see Republicans tweeting in response to Jimmy Kimmel's speech on his son that they don't want to pay for someone else's kid's surgery. Rep. Nunez lied to all of us about his "Midnight Run" to the White House. It is not only Trump who lies like a rug but members of the Republican leadership and many (not all) of their members. Some Dems play with the truth too. At least with Trump I know that he is in all likelihood a diagnosable narcissist who believes his lies when he says them. The members of Congress who lie--they know they are lying which is worse. So no, I am not showing up at marches because I am anti-Trump. I am showing up at the marches because I am sick and tired of the utter bull sh** that spews forth on a regular basis out of the mouths and offices of the majority of Congress. If I had my choice we would take away their health care, require them to buy their own, put a stop to the excessively generous retirement benefits that they receive after leaving Congress and force them to have a taste of what life is like for the majority of Americans.
