Same. Three kids, two are now in college, never once used an ice pack. I don't think food goes bad that quickly, maybe if it's out in the blazing sun for several hours.

No. I pack the night before in insulated lunch bags with their milk in metal insulated containers. My kids eat lunch at 12:25 and 11:15. No problems with anything being cold. Lunches are taken out of the fridge by 8:15 on most days. Buy quality lunch bags and thermoses and food/drinks will stay cold and safe.

No, but 1) I don't pack sandwiches with meat, mayo, etc -- PB&J or something in a thermos, and 2) I freeze applesauce yogurt, and water, and pack them directly from the freezer so there are several very cold items in the lunchbox. If I were sending a sandwich with lunchmeat and/or mayo, I would pack an ice pack.

If I'm packing PBJ, then no ice pack.

If I'm packing lunch meat or yogurt... yes, always have an ice pack.

I always pack an ice pack. And it took me a long time to get comfortable with just an ice pack and the concept of no refridgeration. When I was in school, our lunches were always refridgerated. I could not believe the same is not true at my child's school.

No. It's unnecessary. And he has a yogurt and fresh fruit daily, often with a ham sandwich. It's never been a problem.

Yes; there is an insulated bottom pouch in her lunchbox designed to hold an ice pack. But if I forget to put it in (or my husband forgets), it's no big deal. I don't sweat it. It's a nice-to-have, but it's fine if it doesn't get put in.

It depends on the food. DS is sensitive to the texture and temperature of foods and likes an ice pack for any sandwiches, cheese or yogurt. I pack the sandwiches in Tupperware so the bread doesn't get smushed. I'm a little like this as well so I understand. I pack an ice pack most days in my own lunch.
