I live in 20853. Some people on this board must really live in a bubble if they think the area is unsafe. Go drive around 20853--Norbeck Estates (actually zoned for Magruder), Flower Valley, Manor Country Club, Manor Woods, Rock Creek Valley, Manor Lake, etc. It is not the urban ghetto of west Baltimore. Most of my neighbors are professional people like us, people who work at NIH, for the federal gov, etc. Yes, as go south of Arctic Ave there are some less expensive rambler style homes (by which I mean in the $300Ks) and a fair number of immigrants from central/south American countries. Some of the properties are not as well kept as other homes in the zip code. And we can debate the quality of the schools, sure, but it is just silly to describe the area as unsafe.

I live in 20853. There is a huge disparity depending on where you are. Flower Valley is lovely, but go south of Bel Pre, heading near Parkland into the area near Brookhaven and you can see the neighborhood changing.
PPs must have a short memory. Remember that man who shot his wife, and then shot another woman at Montgomery Mall last year? Police ended up catching him at the Boston Market right there in Aspen Hill. Schools in the area were on high alert that day, so anyone who actually does live in the area with kids would probably remember this.
How is that even relevant? That man was from PG County and was on a spree. Hey, the DC Sniper killed one of his victims right across the street from there. Do you still mention that when talking about the neighborhood? That is just an odd statement. Anyways, "safety is relative. Honestly, I had more issues with crime when I lived in Bethesda, but that does not fit the narrative.
What do you mean, 'How is it relevant'? OP was asking about crime. That was kind of a major incident that people are aware of.
There was also a rape of a woman off of Aspen Hill Road, by the trail. She was out running at like 6:30 in the morning. But super dark.
It's all relevant because OP asked. If it doesn't matter to you, that's fine. But all three have been recent incidents that have people in the neighborhood somewhat concerned.

Wootton High is a nice balance for a W school. I went to WJ and we did have minor problems. I heard its gotten worse and a few refuse to speak English. DS goes to Wootten and has not had any problems. Frost middle did have some problems in the leadership.
W stands for wealthy and white. Wootton isn't wealthy or really that white. If starting with the letter W and aspirationally jonesy was all it took to be counted a W then Wheaton would be a W too. Rockville is not what people mean by wanting the Ws
Wrong. Wootton is definitely one of the W's. Whitman, Winston Churchill, Walter Johnson and Wootton. And Wootton is really wealthy. Not compared to Whitman-but pretty on par with all the others.
How long did you lived zoned for Wootton before you started to believe yourself?
