It was shocking to hear Dad was a serial cheater/hooker buyer. I doubt Kitty was an alcoholic. She had no friends and was so alone. I do believe she was treated bad by the father. I also believe them saying they put her out of her misery.

They HATED their father. They looked at their mother as weak. Money was a factor but not the factor. It was a bonus.

Prison gave them a hard look. I have no sympathy though. They were out of control.

I also think Erik is gay.

You are misunderstanding the point. It is not about setting them free or forgoing punishment, but about the difference between premeditated first degree murder and the legal definition of second degree murder.

The spending spree was not that much out of line for people raised in Beverly Hills or that money bubble

Sure, on one hand they had golden opportunities that not every person gets.
They were raised in mansions w/maids and all of that.
They also had the opportunity to attend Princeton & UCLA which are fine colleges.

Lyle cheated, got suspended by Princeton.
They committed residential robberies for the adrenaline rush since money was not even an issue.

After their parents were murdered they practically dug their own graves by generously spending what $$ their parents had left them.
That wasn't exactly the smartest move on their part, but hey who makes smart decisions at 18 and 21....??!

But on the other hand by all accounts their Father was a tyrant as a Husband, Father and Professional in his field.
He hit & cheated on his wife and may have sexually/physically/mentally abused his sons.

That is the tricky part:
Either they both should of won Academy Awards in '90 for best acting EVER or they endured unimaginable sexual abuse from their Dad at an early age.

Watching them cocky on camera one minute (who can ever remember Erik's smirk when the camera was on his face?) to seeing them cry in distress recalling how their Dad abused them, etc....,well that is a tough watch when they testified.

But no matter what, I still see no logic for them blowing away their Mother, using the pathetic excuse they wanted to put her out of her misery.
