Exactly. There are a lot of situations like this where you use your canned response.

How are you? I'm fine, and you?

What are you grateful for? I'm grateful for good friends and family.

Do these pants make my butt look big? No.

My husband, 4 year old, and I each night at dinner name one thing that was hard that day, one thing that made us happy, and one other thing we want to share about our day. It's the best way for me to know what's up at preschool. Recently a friend was over for dinner and my daughter wanted to do the ritual anyway. I appreciated that my friend went along with it. Why should a family change its routine or rituals to accommodate others? I didn't think this was a big deal.
