Over time, you will learn to tell the difference between that supernatural "nudge" in the right direction, and just errant, everyday thoughts/worries. But you have to practice it enough to learn it- it's like becoming fluent in a language, there's a long period where you're going to be annoyed and not understanding.

Once you reach the point of being able to understand the actual spiritual messages, then you will recognize them when they come. God will see that you are actually listening, that you have done the work and want to know, and He/She will send you more of them. You'll also be able to recognize the God energy that sends these messages, and so you'll be able to tap into it more at will. This can take a long time to reach that point- I would say it's taken me several years. But it's been worth it, and you are learning and still interacting with God in the meantime.

Things that can help to speed up the process: MEDITATION. Yoga, alone time when you work to connect with God (which is basically meditation). Going to spiritual vertex centers like Sedona, where the veil is thinner and you will be able to feel God more easily.
