Not my style either. Too conservative and boring and basically a non fashion look - "classic" - that I agree "looks good" but isn't fashionable. Sure it works and OP will look like all the other non fashionable women in DC.

Well so do I. I love trends and adapting them and seeing shows and photo shoots. But op wanted to know if a specific look could still work. And it does. The only universe in which it doesn't is one in which you are slavish to up to the moment trends.

Most of the people wearing the looks publicist PP is referring to weren't even born in 1985, so it's probably not dated to them.

Publicist PP- what you don't get is this area is filled with moms with relatively serious jobs who do not dramatically change their look each year. Most of what we have in our closets is 2+ years old. Blazer with jeans is a classic look that has been and will be popular with most "normal", non-fashion types. it's like saying pants are not in style. I'm sure your advice is great for younger people in more fashion-forward cities, but it's not good advice for regular people in a regular city. I would be laughed at if I wore joggers or a satin bomber to work--it would look so out of place, like I was trying way too hard. I think if you are in a city with a relatively conservative style of dress like ours, it's much easier for trendy clothes to go over the line of fashionable to "fashion victim" than in other places.


NP. True but why ask her for "fashion" advice at all or fight it tooth and nail when she doles out what IS the current style and trend. If you want to stick with the no fashion/classic/conservative style and the old clothes in the closet that most DC moms like to wear than don't ask or at least not throw a fit when she answers the question. You do you. Some of us don't work in a conservative workplace and like fashion.

Actually, enough time has passed from the "wearing blazers over a graphic tee with skinny jeans" trend of the early-mid-aughts that I am pretty sure you could wear any kind of blazer with jeans and still look good.

And as the OP mentioned, boyfriend jeans are really the only kind of jeans to wearing nowadays. You can pull off skinny jeans, sure- but if fashion forward is what you're going for then boyfriend jeans it is. That's kind of crucial.
