+2 I would be PISSED if you bought it without consulting me. I'd be happy if you woke me up one day, drove me to a dealership and were like, 'surprise! let's get a car!' But if the car showed up in the driveway?? Hell to the no.
UNLESS we had long talked about how much I wanted a certain SUV in particular.

She makes 75k.
I make $175k and we have a HHI $650k and I drive a 10-year old CR-V.
I won't give it up!
200k with no debt is in a fine position to look at options past a CRV

No mom wants a Mercedes sedan. GLE and GLS are both great for kids. If you are going to have another kid, and will keep the car for5 years or so,I'd get something with a third row. MDX or Pilot.

I think some snooping is in order first. What does she like, which car make? Would she be mad she wasn't consulted about the expense? You hopefully know these things. Is she going to be happy or mad that you spent the money without her input? Does she think you waste money without need or is she a spender? If I got a Jeep, I would not be happy at all, if I got an Audi, maybe better, or best of all I would like Honda Pilot, but even after 23 years of marriage, I am pretty sure my DH has no idea what I would prefer. So investigate first.

Assuming you live in the DC metro area with a high COL, $200K is not a lot, especially now that you have a kid. You presumably have a mortgage, need to save for college, and possibly another kid.
Also, I'd be pissed if I were DW and you went and bought a car without my input. You want to buy something nice, get diamond studs. Beautiful, practical, and she can wear them forever.
