Daughter wants to study math/finance/economics. Along those lines. Not sure what the end goal is but loves math.
Wants the big university experience. We're in DC so she'll get $10K a year through the TAG program to attend state school (not a huge amount but it's something).
NC State, not UNC.

I went to Ohio State. It is very, very big. I really liked that about it. Something for everyone. But you do have to be able to be pretty self-directed. I was in the honors program so I got priority scheduling, which is very important. Many of my friends did not graduate in 4 years because of scheduling difficulties. Football is huge, although I was not and am still not very interested in it. But it consumes the campus and most of Columbus in the fall. Nice people. Columbus is a fun town that has a lot going for it. Terrible weather, especially Nov-Mar. Lots of gray days. [/quote
bad choice. Too many ohio residents at OSU, which means too many Trumpkins or those who are only 1 degree separated from Trumpkins.
Do you want your DD to be in such an environment?
sending her would be child abuse.
Focus on Cal, UCLA, or University of Washington.

Anonymous wrote:you are a nutAnonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Some of the good ones are:
University of Texas - Austin
Wisconsin - Madison and Austin are my two favorite college cities
Penn State
Maryland
UVA
North Carolina
Oregon
Univ of Washington
Arizona
Arizona State
madison is really pretty but the job prospects are hit or miss.
UT is reigional
PSU's brand is finished.
Maryland is ugly.
UVA is douche central
UNC is a plantation school
Oregon is a football factory
UWashington - great school, but outside of stem, no national recognition.
AZ/ASU - super hot student body in inverse proportion to academic exellence.
There's only 2 d1 state schools that are worth it on a national basis (maybe 3 if you include michigan) but they are Cal and UCLA.

Of course UCSD gives you the beach and the education/employment opportunities but it's harder to get into than SB.

St. Paul/Minneapolis is a great place. The school is really good in a whole host of things, and the people in the upper northwest are lovely.
