So far she likes the attention and comments about her height, but my fear was that once she is in middle school it would become a negative. So this thread is great news.

One question: for those that say they are tall with an thletic build, what does that mean? Can you give me a celebrity to illustrate what that looks like?

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is 5'6. She also looks skeletal.

So... try again?

5'8" and slim -love it! I am very concerned about gaining weight in the future, tall and large size women look kinda frightening to me
BF is 6' tall, so I wear super high stilettos, but I dated moderate height guys in the past, too.
Been a man and gentleman has nothing to do with height)))

1. Fitting into airline and back seats. It's not terrible (as it would be for someone 6'5"), but not great.
2. Even when I'm thin, my clothing size is larger than the average just because my overall scale is bigger. I have long limbs and a long waist and big feet. Anyone who says clothes are designed for tall people is just wrong. Clothes may be designed for a 5'7" size 0, but not a 5'10" size 10.
3. There's an assumption that height makes you good at sports. No, I don't play basketball, volleyball, or swim. I can barely walk without tripping over my size 10 feet.

This is me too.

I like being able to reach things but I feel like my height limited me romantically. Only short guys were interested and I married one. I see so many more tall women here in DC (am originally from the southeast.)

5'8" (which, IMO, is the short end of tall) girl here. YES! Clothes look better on tall girls. (Sorry, shorties, its true.)

Definitely. I've always liked it, except maybe when the 6th grade dance rolled around and I was a head taller than all the boys. I wish my husband was a smudge taller though. I'm 5'9" and he's 5'10".

I'm 5-5, well truth be told more like 5-4, and always wanted to be taller. I don't like asking for reaching help or having to drag a stool or ladder around. My husband is 6-3, his brother 6-4 with a 5-3 wife and our tall MIL liked to say she wished "the short women wouldn't take the tall men." I was childish and said he was the one who chased me so take it up with him. I won't give him up but the truth is we don't "fit" in some ways, for instance dancing. I had always dated men much closer to my height. But then he came along and the heart wants what it wants and that is what counts for us all when it gets down to it.

I'm 5'10 I never thought I was tall until I moved here. Dc area folks seem to be shorter than the midwest.
I enjoy being tall. I'm fat and I'd look much worse short
I never considered 5'8 tall.

I'm over 6 feet. Don't hate it like I used to but don't like it much - get tired of being stared at all the time. Finding clothes is a pain because I don't have $$ to spend on high end which is what fits best.

DD is 5'9" and loves her height and loves to wear heels too. She is 17 and didn't like it so much in junior high/early high school. I don't consider 5"8-5"9" tall at all.

Nope. I'd definitely prefer to be a few inches shorter. Maybe not super short, but average height would be nice.

I'm 5'8. Tall to me is a woman who is 5'10 and above.

I like being my height. I would love to be taller - about 5'10 would be great.

Exact same here.

Opposite here. I'm 5'8" and people have been commenting on my height for 30 years so I consider myself tall. Maybe I seem taller than I am?!

Anyway, similar exierience to others in that being tall wasn't great as a teen but I grew into myself and now appreciate my height. I dated two guys very seriously who were shorter than me and while I pretended I didn't care, I actually did. My husband is 6' 2" and I LOVE it....have for 20 years.

The irony is apparently I'm shrinking. My daughter (12) asked me the other day if I had ever been tall lol

I am 5 9 and never felt tall till I moved to DC. In my experience the men here average a shorter stature then other places - or at least shorter then my area of Texas. Never remotely considered myself a tall gal till I came here. For the first time I started hating my height, really wished I was 5 5 or so.
