But what I don't understand about the republicans like the OP's mom who say they have to vote for Trump because he is a republican, is that he doesn't even hold traditionally republican views. For example, being anti-trade is a core issue of his even though republicans are usually pro-trade and pro-business. Trump supports the government setting drug prices in Medicare, which is a big government intrusion that the GOP has opposed. Trump would cozy up to Russia and doesn't care if other nations get nuclear weapons, which is not consistent with traditional republican beliefs. Hillary Clinton's foreign policy (and her pro wall street leanings) are actually much closer to traditional republican views (much to my dismay). So why do republicans feel like they "have" to vote for Trump? his views aren't consistent with the traditional party platform.

OP here, I completely agree with your view of Trump, and being a Democrat I have never had any intention of voting for him. My question is what do you really expect Republicans such as my mother, to do? Yes, she thinks Trump is just as disgusting as we do, yet being a Republican, she still for the most part agrees with his view of how the nation should run. Is she supposed to put that aside and not vote for him just because he's a pig? Would Democrats do the same if the situation were reverse?
