I'm the PP. Did you miss the part where I said we moved to somewhere and then "will never go back?"

By that you might be able to deduct that I no longer live there.

Whoa, your thread starting post said that you moved "outside the beltway," which clearly implies that you remained in the DC area. Then 3 pages later it emerged that you moved to the midwest. Why didn't you just say where you moved in the first place instead of doubling down? Quite Trumplike of you. No wonder your neighbors don't like you.

+1

OP for the record "outside the beltway" clearly means you moved to Fairfax or Rockville. It does not mean you moved halfway across the freaking country. For that, use "I moved halfway across the freaking country".

+1, obviously OP is a tad unbalanced, which is isn't going to cause her to make friends too easily.

And here is another Trumpian who cannot read but attack like a dog.

God, can you guys not read? That was a different poster, not the OP. How "Trumplike" of you to fail at basic reading comprehension and then attack the OP in this nasty way.

Try biking instead of the car.

Fairfax might ght as well be flyover land. Boring, soulless, cesspool.

It's the largest jurisdiction in the metropolitan region and the economic powerhouse. Nothing else in the region comes close.

If you moved for such important reasons as school and house, I think you'll get used to your new life. Progressively.

There is nothing progressive about outside the Beltway suburbs. That is why people fight tooth and nail to avoid them at all costs.

It's all tradeoffs no matter where you live. Move to solve some problems, get new ones.

It is truly horrifying to me that so many people who should be having a good life are moving to places to be miserable "for their kids", or just because their husband wants a big house. Do you want your kids to grow up and and do the same thing! Life is too short! Live where you want to live! There have to be good places with schools that your kids will be happy with that won't make you miserable. So what if it's not the absolute best school in the region. Your kids will be fine. Go now! What are you waiting for! My kids are in a great school, we can walk places, my neighbors are great. And it's not the absolute "best" school we could afford..but my kids are fine and happy and so am I.

Anonymous wrote:I hate mine too, OP. Moved to the DC burbs in late 2014 and have hated every minute of it since then. Did it for the schools but the commute to downtown DC is miserable and I hate not being able to walk to anything. Neighbors are perfectly nice but we just haven't really "clicked." We're going to move back to DC as soon as possible. Will try for a good elementary and figure out schools as we go along.

I think it's just a really personal thing. Some people love the burbs, some don't.

Very true. We liked Adams Morgan, hated Mount Pleasant. Unfortunately, we only rented in the former and bought in the latter.

What's wrong with Mt. P vs. Adams Morgan? It seems super community oriented and more family-friendly than AdMo. Definitely less drunks. And you're only a 15 minute walk from Columbia Road.
We love living in Adams Morgan, but currently DINKs and thinking about a kid in the next 3 to 4 years.

Bad retail, including few interesting restaurants (umpteen places selling papusas and little else)
Bad schools
Too much crime/too many locals with drug/alcohol problems that manifested themselves in vagrancy, harassment and EMT noise
Kids spread among all the area privates and not socializing with each other
Not quite close enough to either CP or CH Metro stations

Thanks for confirming our doubts about Mt. Pleasant. Those are pretty much the things that made us ultimately buy somewhere else.

Halloween is coming up. Sit on your front step when passing out candy. How we met many of our neighbors when we first moved here.

I moved in from the soulless dump of an other burb to a close in community on Metro inside the Beltway. I was thrilled from Day 1. You never should have moved.
