I know this is an old thread, but wanted to thank the person that recommended The Snatchabook. I checked it out of the library after seeing the recommendation. Really cute story, and the illustrations are great. And of course 3yo DC likes it too.

"We Are In A Book" by Mo Willems (Elephant & Piggie) has to be one of the weirdest, funniest kids' books ever made.

Blue Hat Green Hat is a regular in our household, just because it is so hilarious and fun to read.

Charlotte's Web is a classic for a reason. When Charlotte dies ("No one was with her when she died"), it gets me every single time.

+1 Our Munsch favorites are "The Paper Bag Princess" (you go, feminist princess!), "I have to Go!" (about how kids always have to go pee right after you've finished zipping them up into their snowsuits), and "David's Father" (about a boy whose father is a giant). As for "I Love You Forever," let's just say I disappeared that one really quick.

Yes! She smooches and then swims away. I laugh at this every time. My DS is too young now, but I imagine toddlers rape kissing after reading this book.

"Danny the Champion of the World" is a Roald Dahl book that I adore -- and that doesn't seem to be as popular as Dahl's other books (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, etc.).

Another vote for the Elephant & Piggie series. I credit these books with helping my kid learn to read. He would play the role of Elephant and read all of Elephant's lines and I would play Piggie's role. The art is deceptively simple - you really get a sense of what the characters are feeling from just a few simple lines! The moral lessons are good without beating you over the head. And they're short and to the point. I heard somewhere that "The Thank You Book" is Mo Willems' last Elephant & Piggie book

And Little Oink. I love that whole series. The stories are fun and well-written, and the art is delightful.

I also love "Not a Box" and "Not a Stick." Short, but effective. Lovely art.
