I think part of the reason Cindy Crawford was so successful as a model was that she has an approachable style of beauty. She could be the girl next door, just the really hot girl next door. There was something real-girl about her. Kate Upton is the same way - she looks like if you talked to her about sports in a bar, she'd probably know which teams were playing and drink a beer with you. I think that's part of her popularity. (plus the fact that she has boobs, whereas a lot of models are basically coat hangers.)

Why would you expect an industry based on looks to be fair?

because the industry used to be much more merit-based. so not fair in a sense that everyone can make it, obviously, but fair in a sense that what mattered was if you had the goods rather than if your parents were rich. there used to be a lot of models from middle class (hello kate moss) even poor backgrounds and much fewer of those with "famous" last names. now it seems the opposite, and these new models are not particularly stunning. some are pretty and can kind of pass for a model but none are outstanding.


How is that different from many other industries? Just look at what's happening in the White House! Not saying it's fair but it's not unique to the modeling world.

I don't think Cindy was all that either but she is still much more model like than her ugly eyes daughter.

She's covered in moles, have you ever noticed? Gross. I think she puts makeup on them a lot but occasionally doesn't then you see how many she has on her neck, chest area, torso, etc. I don't know why she doesn't have them removed.


Oh, no, I didn't notice. Then runway is perfect for her then.

I'm probably a small minority who thinks Cindy Crawford was not all that. Brown hair, brown eyes, nothing distinctive but the mole. Paulina Porizkova was my favorite of the era.

I think Gigi Hadid is beautiful, but her sister Bella has been rumored to have had a bunch of plastic surgery to make herself beautiful. I don't think Cindy Crawford's daughter is all that gorgeous, though she's very attractive. Her brother is actually the more attractive of the two. Kendall Jenner is beautiful, but so are a lot of people - I don't know that she'd be famous without the famous name.

Huh. August 2016 Vogue says she's the breakout model of her generation...and she's on multiple covers around the globe this month and next.

People are hating because she's linked to the Kardashians. And that's not really fair. She's pretty, has a model's figure, and is doing well in the industry.

I realize she's not everyone's cup of tea, but neither were the supermodels back in the day. I always thought Kate Moss looked rather ordinary. I always thought Cindy Crawford and Elle McPherson were gorgeous, but they weren't very model-y (more "hot girl nextdoor" than anorexic heroin-chic glamazon).

Kendall looks like a model. She has the body and striking facial features coupled with the vacant look.


She’s pretty. Nothing special.
