Of course it’s not ok for him to kill her. But saying that everything is fine as long as it’s legal is an inane argument. It’s legal to do a lot of risky behaviors. It’s legal to buy a gun and sleep with it loaded under your pillow, but most of us wouldn’t recommend it. It’s legal to go out for a midnight jog along the street wearing all black, but most of us wouldn’t recommend it.

She absolutely didn’t deserve to be killed, but if the witnesses were correct about how drunk she was, then her choices endangered her. Just like teens who pile into a car with the radio blaring and get distracted, like people who go for a day hike and don’t pack extra layers/water in case. They don’t deserve bad things, but it’s naive to think actions don’t have consequences.


I can’t believe you’re equating dangerous driving with being raped and killed. The ONLY person who is responsible for her choice in this situation is the rapist and murderer. If she passed out and got a fatal head wound, you would have a point. The problem was that the guy she met was a rapist and a murderer.

This happened to my friend too. It’s sadly not uncommon. Fortunately, we realized she’d been separated from us and we found her just as he - the bartender- was leading her into a storage room. We took her to the ER because she was acting so different and they kept asking her if she took drugs but she had not.

WATCH them make your drinks.

I think any doubt of his guilt was removed when he killed Flores. His father and Aruban authorities are partially responsible for her death, IMO. If they didn't try to protect van der Sloot, that woman would still be alive.


Wonder why Flores would have been with a suspected murderer.

For one, because she lived in Peru (not Aruba). And most murderers don’t walk around with a T-shirt saying “hi! I’m a murderer!”

PP didn't say Natalie deserved to die. Nobody is blaming the victim for her awful demise. However, someone didn't care if she deserved it or not. He took advantage of her fun-on-a-tropical-island condition. He didn't get the message about how rude and mean it is to do that. Maybe he got the message and just ignored it.

So if you decide to have fun by getting drunk, please remember the gamble you are taking. Not all people are nice and mannerly; some may not play fair.

I listened to a podcast episode recently that included more details that I had not known. Perhaps they are known and I was simply too young in 2005 to pay attention (I was in my early 20s).

anyway, the podcast mentioned that multiple people saw Joran van der Sloot and the brothers digging a hole. van der Sloot and his father were seen in that same area later after her disappearance was made public. When the police finally checked that location, nothing was found.

The podcast also touched on the fact that Joran's father got access to the hotel security footage before the police. Then it came out that there was no footage of her, according to officials.

there are an awful lot of ways to have fun without getting shit faced. Pretty sad that you don't know that. Alcohol causes billions of dollars in injuries, lost wages, destroyed families and lives, property damage, abuse and so much more. But hey, it's all good. They're just having some fun.
