Why exactly are you afraid of your teens hearing you?
I think it's rude. No teen wants to hear their parents having sex. None. Most adults don't want to hear people having sex either unless they're watching porn. If it's loud enough to be heard during the day, in normal circumstances, from other parts of the house, then I think it's appropriate to either quiet it down or put on some music.
I'm not one of the people freaking out that it is SO GROSS or anything. It's normal, and I don't think it should be kept a secret from the kids. But I don't think it's necessary to be so obvious as to make them uncomfortable, especially since we are talking about them going off during the day to have sex. It's already obvious what's going on.
No one here is saying to be as ridiculously loud, but what is the big deal if they hear a headboard squeak or a stray moan?
Why do you find it so upsetting or assume your teens will find it upsetting to know their parents have sex?
What a sicko. No, your teens don't want to hear you having sex. And actually, you can get yourself arrested for having sex when others can hear/see you -- even in your own house.
I said nothing about want. You are letting your own issues impact your reading. If it happens it's not a big deal. I'm not going to drive myself crazy or extremely limit my sex life with my husband so the kids/teens never risk hearing anything.
I truly think you need to seek therapy.

I think it was fine. It actually let me know that sex is a natural part of a strong marriage. My parents are now in their early 80's and still have sex. Good for them!
How do you know so much about your parent's sex life?
HUH?
I think PP means knowing that they're still having sex in their 80s.
Yeah that's not "so much" info at all. Just one indication of their health.
No one said anything about their health. I don't think most people discuss their 80 year old parents sex life with them.
I doubt it's a long discussion of frequency, positions, and endurance. Maybe something like, "We're lucky to still have somewhat of a sex life. Most of our contemporaries do not."

We don't have teens but one of my friends very eloquently put it to hers: if our bedroom door is closed, and you hear a noise, don't knock to ask what it is. It is exactly what you think it is."
Ew.
Ew for what? Adults have sex, kids or not. Shoot, some of you all probably were banging men and/o women during your teenage years.

It's not a big deal to most healthy people.
I suspect them people freaking out have deep seated issues perhaps a history of abuse.
Oh, can it with the abuse nonsense.
Yes, sex is normal and healthy. But no one wants to hear their parents having sex. Welcome to Earth.

I remember being a teen, and when you're a teen EVERYTHING your parents do is upsetting and embarrassing.
I can't see how I could get into it, knowing we are so damn loud that my kids can hear it and, if they're a typical teen, are grossed out.
Contrary to what you might want to believe, teens are going to be grossed out, even if you live in a sex positive home.
Maybe they will.
I know that I wasn't.
I know my husband wasn't.
There's a possibility they won't be.
