It is even better than that. It sounds like Melania actually read the phrases to the speechwriter over the phone. She obviously knew they were Michelle's words.
The writer said she included some of the phrasing, and those phrases are fairly common. If you insist that's plagiarism then
Barack plagiarized Deval Patrick and Michelle plagiarized Saul Alinsky.

a. The speechwriter took full responsibility
b. The speechwriter is a woman
c. Trump did not fire her
....Because, if he had fired her, y’all would be prattling on and on about how he hates women.........
But I thought there was nothing to take responsibility for? I thought these were "common phrases"?
They are common phrases. That's why the writer didn't even bother to go back to check and Melania said it with ease.
Millions of Americans work hard for what they want in life. Whoops, sorry Michelle for infringe on your patents.
So what was the speech writer taking responsibility for? If it wasn't plagiarism?

The writer said she "included some of the phrasing in the draft". You can call it whatever you want. The sad part is you guys are hysteric about it for a few phrases.
HRC would sack her immediately for political gain. I admire how Trump family treated her.
You can call it what you want but please don't be hypocritical.

I was posting yesterday that she shouldn't be blamed for this mess (because I assumed that someone else wrote the speech), and that I could not understand why the just didn't fire the speechwriter right away. Now it is clear from the NY Times article and this statement that Melania disregarded the professionally written speech and collaborated with a family friend (they call her a professional writer, but that statement suggests otherwise) and specifically told this person to include the Michelle Obama stuff. No wonder the she wasn't fired, Melania was behind the whole thing, and the Trump camp is admitting as much!
And this is what I am afraid of about a Trump presidency... he says he's going to surround himself with knowledgeable people, and listen to them, but this incident shows that they don't really listen to the professionals that they hire. They will just do it themselves. Scary as hell!
