I laugh at this when I think about women all over the world with real problems. Woman up, OP. You can handle this with a better attitude and perspective. It's not like you're walking miles carrying containers of water and kindling in this heat, fearing for your and your child's lives.

Right, but OP is preggggggnant, and her husband is traaaaaaveling, and she has to wooooork, and she has a preschooooooler, and she had to take a gluuuuuucose test yesterday morning.
It is unreasonable to ask her to act like an adult and address the problem, as evidenced by the fact that she didn't even end up taking the hotel or going to her mom's option.
Where does OP say what she actually ended up doing?

You can get light, easily installed window unit ACs. We did this when our AC went out. It may seem like a ridiculous expense, but for us it was cheaper/more convenient than a hotel, and we've loaned it out to friends who also had the unfortunate experience of their AC going out. If I calculated the costs of the appreciative dinners out we've been treated to in return, I'm pretty sure we'd come out ahead on the cost.

Wow. The air conditioner was a very reasonable suggestion and I was trying to be helpful, having been in your situation (pregnant, small child, no husband, derecho, miserable). But now I agree: you sound really high maintenance, and frankly a little bitchy. Eat some protein before you interact with your child, for her sake. Then go check into the Ritz and be done with it.
Actually, telling a pregnant woman with a 4 year old in tow to go out and buy and then install an an air conditioner ( that probably weighs 50 lbs) is pretty stupid advice. That would probably take an hour. In 30 minutes, she could be at her Mom's house. Eat some protein before you give moronic advice.

Costco and many places sell small portable air conditioners. OP has received reasonable suggestions, but does seem like a whiny princess.

My mom used to take me and my best friend to a hotel when my brother had his sleep over birthday party each year. I always felt like a princess!
