I have done lots of research and read lots of threads. My child applied to the program. I am interested to know why you think the IB program requires focus on a specific subject matter.

Though maybe I don't really care what you think. OP was asking a specific question that this does not relate to. I hope you child has a great experience.

IB is a very broad education that requires classes in many areas. So PP implied that many kids skip the magnet because they want "varied knowledge", the IB program would allow both benefits of a magnet and "varied knowledge" OF course it is not like SMAC kids are not taking languages, English, social studies etc too.

And, most research shows that the most successful people have varied knowledge and don't differentiate too early. Families with real knowledge about knowledge, often don't make the "standard" decisions.

I agree the highest and lowest performing schools will not change. However I suspect the trend in those schools that are mixed SES will be toward increased segregation. We have an infant at home and I recently did a little analysis of the schools in our cluster (and other similar "middle of the road" school clusters--think those that feed into Rockville HS, Macgruder, etc.). Over the past few years the trend in those schools has been toward slowly but steadily increasing ESOL and FARMS. If you apply the average 10 or even 5 year trend to future years, those schools will look very different by the time our child is ready for HS. Of course, we don't know what will happen, and much of it depends on wider economic and migration patterns, but I think the potential toward greater segregation is there.
