I'm re-watching and finished the episode where Dean breaks up with Rory because she didn't say she loved him back.

Ugh Dean's the worst.

I really don't understand why Luke is letting the fact that he recently discovered he has a daughter get in the way of marrying Lorelai. One thing has nothing to do with the other!

I can't stand Logan. What an entitled jerk... if Rory goes back to him, I'm going to scream.

I could be mis-remembering. Didn't Rory 'take the fall?' I thought that was part of the reason why she and Lorelai had such a big fall out.

The estrangement (five months??) between Rory and Lorelai stemmed from the fact that Rory decided to drop out of Yale. Lorelai was furious and said something like Rory shouldn't contact her until she was ready to return to school. The fact that Rory decided to move in with her grandparents just added insult to injury.

I just got to the part where Rory and Lorelai reconciled, and even though I was thrilled that they did, the whole estrangement just seemed so phony. No way would two people who were so close have let something like that get between them, and for so long. Also, even though Emily behaved badly toward Rory in the end (controlling, demanding, etc.), I don't recall recall Rory EVER really thanking her grandparents for all they did for her - letting her stay in the pool house, redecorating it for her, all of the perks that came with living there, paying for Yale, etc. As annoying as they could be, they weren't that bad, and they did so much to help and support her. Rory can, at times, come off like an entitled little snot.

I don't think that word means what you think it means. She is NOT a MPDG. MPDGs are usually not allowed to have their own emotions and interior lives and serve only to boost the male lead's stuffy solitude. NP, but I disagree. Quirky and beautiful are the only traits she fits. MPDGs are Penny Lane in almost famous, Kirstin dunst in that horrific elizabethtown, and Natalie Portman in the shameful Garden State. They are never main characters like Lorelei - instead they exist to explain more about the male characters.

Disagree Lorelei has not dealt with consequences during the show. She experienced real moments of pain and conflict, borrowing money from her parents, having Rory get in that car accident with Jess, to name a few.

Lorelei is the MPDG for the audience. She exists to explain more about life to her female audience.

Look, you are distorting the MPDG term too much here. Whatever point you are making, you need to think up a term for it.
