Right. Because it's all about these single parents and their love lives and making sure they are happy. Forget about the innocent kids who are thrown around in the mix of men/ women coming and going, in and out of their lives. They'll "adjust," I suppose.


13:19 here. I only socialize, to date or see friends, after my child goes to bed at 7 pm. Even then, he's here with my mother who lives with us. I wouldn't introduce him to someone unless it was really serious, maybe not even unless I was planning on marrying them. Every single parent I know personally is the same way.

Not seeing how going to out to dinner with a man I'm interested in romantically is different from going out to dinner with a woman I'm friends with. Or is that wrong too? Won't someone please think of the children, indeed.

It's entirely possible to hire a sitter and date without your kids even knowing what you're doing. Responsible adults can have plenty of adult time w/o the kids being any the wiser. And most of us are intelligent enough to make sure our new romantic partners are decent, solid people and going to be around for a while before we introduce them to our child(ren).

But freak out, PP. It's a good look.

Yes, most likely you should give up on dating until s/he is 18 and out of the house. Your kid, whose intact home was ripped apart by your divorce, needs you.


My child is 1 and I'm 30. My H walked out on us. And I shouldn't date until I'm almost 50? Awesome!

Yes I'm a single parent, in fact. So I know of what I speak. When I became a parent, I remained a daughter/friend/colleague//woman of my own. I'm not raising my own little girl to believe that her own life stops once she becomes a mother. Nobody expects this of men. In fact, people are usually anxious to find a wife for a single father.

Did you stop "dating" your husband once you had kids? Give up sex? Drop your friendships? Put gym time on the back burner? Perhaps you deserve my pity instead.
