Sage advice.Anonymous wrote:Good God! Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Unless the grandparents are giving your kid a bag of heroin, there is just one thing to do with a present - have your child say thank you and then use it in accordance with house rules, whatever they may be.
Oh, if you are worried about the iPad outshing your doll - it may or it may not. However, I assure you, at some point someone will give a gift that your child will like more than the gift you picked. It's not the end of the world.

+1
Just accept it graciously. You, as the parents, still get to regulate the usage. You're looking for a fight, OP.

Made her learn to use it in silent mode when in public. Now, 5 years later she still has it, never broke it, is pretty disinterested in tech except as a means to an end (researching animals, weather, Song lyrics, recipes, calculator, some math games and Spanish language help, occasional video, infrequent minecraft). Mainly uses it when sick or on long car trips. I think it was good for her. Depends on the kid, and the parents.

heck there is probably an app that allows you set use times so it only available during certain hours unless you enter a pass word...
